Zagarolo it is a city part of the County of Rome, in the region of Lazio located in the centre of Italy. Zagarolo it is located in the gorgeous area called "Castelli Romani" (Castels of Rome) just outside the "Capital", the city of Rome. Zagarolo also it is part of the local mountains community called "Comunità Montana dei Monti Prenestini", the population it is estimed in 14,620 inhabitants over an 28km2 area. History :
The ancient origin of Zagarolo is Gabi. The historical centre of Zagarolo has middleage origins and it was build on XVI century. In the middle of the city there is the ancient Rospigliosi Palace. The Palazzo Rospigliosi is a big structure in the city center, it is the fulcrum of the history and modern cultural life of Zagarolo, here it is settled the beautiful "Toys museum".. It rises at the site of an ancient medieval caste, which is first referenced to when Pope Paschal II destroyed Zagarolo in early XII century after the rebellion of the Colonna family, of which the palace was one of the strongholds. For many centuries it remained under the Colonna influence, and was besieged and destroyed several times due to the rivalry between the papacy and the Colonna family. In the XVI century the Colonnas and the papacy started having peaceful relationships, and Zagarolo became a duchy, hence the Palace became known as Palazzo Ducale. The palace now was used as a residence and two major wings were added to it towards the piazza, frescoes were painted and a hanging garden was built.

Culture :
There are several interesting spots to see in Zagarolo as Palazzo Rospigliosi, the Tondo, ancient churches or the Toy Museum. The Museum offers a social reconstruction of toys and the act of playing in a series of sections that, through a historic excursus, crosses the fundamental periods of the XX century. The communal council decided to create the museum in 1998. It was inaugurated in 2005 with a positive response from the critics and the public. It holds over 800 examples of Italian and European toys of the XX century. In Rospigliosi palace there are all years art events as artshow, classic music concert & more. On summer time Zagarolo's municipality and people are involved in a daily programme of events and festival. Good food & good red wine rapresent a precious experience of the local culture of Zagarolo & all the surronding area, featured by wine-festivals (sagra dell'uva), the first week-end of October.

Local events :
The main local events of Zagarolo are : the "Book fair festival" on June ;  the funny white-night "Notte Bianca" in July 2,550 mt of events involving all the local community and enduring all night ; August 10th St. Laurence night, the "Good Bike" week festival in the mid of September ; the wine festival "Sagra dell'Uva" on the first week-end of October. In July and August many more events are osted in Palace Rospigliosi. In winter there are the Goffredo Petrassi premium and the Toys museum award.
